CARY A. HORVATH

Cary Horvath, partner, is a municipal attorney with 40 years of experience. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1973, and his Juris Doctorate from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1976. Cary is a member of the Illinois State Bar, the trial bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Over the years, Cary has served and continues to serve as city or village attorney for numerous municipalities. He also serves as attorney for fire and police commissions and civil service commissions. Cary provides counsel with respect to labor issues, drafting of ordinances and resolutions, financing, economic development projects, and TIF districts.

Throughout his career, Cary has handled numerous contested grievance arbitration hearings, contested interest arbitration hearings, and gone through the civil litigation process with these labor disputes. He has also successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements with unions representing police, fire and municipal employees. He has received multiple favorable decisions for municipal clients in both labor and litigation matters, including successful arguments before the Illinois Supreme Court and Illinois Appellate Court.

Cary is married to Gale and has 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
