Michael Hayes provides counsel in municipal and labor law, as well as in civil rights and personal injury litigation. A graduate of the University of Illinois in 1993 and DePaul University College of Law in 1996, he is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Michael represents public and private clients in a wide-range of matters in the state and federal courts, including matters involving commercial litigation disputes, civil rights violations, personal injury and contract lawsuits, and administrative review appeals. He also drafts ordinances, contracts, and intergovernmental agreements.

Michael has worked in all three branches of Illinois government. He served as legal counsel to various legislative committees as an attorney for the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, as a judicial law clerk for former Illinois Appellate Court Justice and now Illinois Supreme Court Justice, Anne Burke, and as counsel in the General Law Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. Michael also served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Additionally, Michael has conducted trials before the Illinois Labor Relations Board, the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, the Civil Service Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, various municipal pension boards, and other administrative bodies. He has conducted arbitrations on behalf of both public unions and employers. Michael has served as a Special Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County and argued cases before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Illinois Appellate Court. He is also President of the Fenwick High School Bar Association and a member of the Chicago Bar Association.

Michael is married to Nicole, and they have 3 children.
